学院现有教职员工106人，其中专职教师85名，教授20人，副教授54人，博士生导师12人，硕士生导师46人， MBA导师40人。学院有“长江学者”讲座教授 1人，教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”入选者1人，“西安青年科技人才”1人。现有在校全日制本科生789人，学术类硕士研究生273人，专业学位硕士研究生427人，博士研究生40人，留学生15人。
Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) was established in Xi'an in 1944. It is a comprehensive normal university with the Double First-Class disciplines directly under the Ministry of Education in Northwest China. On April 18, 2002, International Business School (IBS) was established, it emerges out of the revolution and holistic development of SNNU. Over the last 20 years, upholding the mission of “create knowledge in economics and management, nurture the business elites with strong social responsibility”, following the motto of “Life lies in diligence”, become an influential institute with a long-standing reputation in economics and management. IBS is rooted in Western China while embracing and serving the whole country and the world. Professor He Liancheng, a well-known economist and educator, is the Honorary Dean of IBS. Professor Lei Hongzhen is the Dean of IBS currently.
IBS currently has 111 faculty and staff members. 91 faculty members are participating faculty, including 19 professors, 49 associate professors, 12 doctoral advisors, 46 graduate students’ advisors and 40 MBA instructors. There is one Changjiang Distinguish Scholar as part-time faculty. Two faculty members were supported by program for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education. And one faculty member is titled with “Youth Talent of Science and Technology of Xi’an”. Right now, there are 891 full-time undergraduates, 273 full-time graduate students, 427 professional graduate students, 40 doctoral students and 15 international students.
There are seven departments within IBS (Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Organizational Management, Management Science, Finance and Accounting, and International Financial Management), as well as an MBA and MPAcc center and an EDP center. IBS also has five research centers, which includes Research Center for Poverty Alleviation Policy and Evaluation (National Think Thank, CTTI Sources Think Thank), Soft Science Research Center, Cross Sensing and Process Control Research Institute (INST-CPC), Digital Business Experimental Teaching Center and Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center in Economics and Management, etc..
The School has two post-doctoral stations in theoretical economics and business administration. IBS has doctoral degree program in theoretical economics and business administration and master’s degree program in theoretical economics, applied economics and business administration. And the School also provides MBA and MPAcc degree program. The population, resource and environmental economics and national economics are the key disciplines at the provincial and ministerial levels. Behavioral economics and management based on Chinese economics of development is the key construction disciplines. Theoretical economics has been included in the first-class disciplines of Shaanxi Normal University.
Currently, IBS has bachelor’s degree program with six majors, including economics, finance, marketing, human resources management, financial management and e-commerce, and one quantity finance innovation experimental class at university-level. Among them, the major of economics is the national first-class undergraduate construction major; the major of financial management and the major of finance is granted as the provincial first-class undergraduate construction major. In terms of curriculum, IBS has set up a comprehensive curriculum system taking example by excellent business schools at home and abroad. The aim of IBS’s curriculum system is to nurture business elites with solid theoretical foundation in economics and management and strong research ability. Students should be capable of using knowledges in economy, management, information technology and foreign languages, and be ready for working in government, enterprises, finance area or universities. The School has one high-quality public course at provincial level. And at university-level, IBS has17 high-quality courses, five bilingual demonstration courses, seven English taught demonstration courses, six excellent teaching team and 29 information courses. And the School also provides a large-scale public compulsory course on the theory and practice of innovation and entrepreneurship (online and offline). It provides an important guarantee for students to connect with practice and improve practical ability. Since 2016, for freshmen, the School has set a “distribution system”. Students are enrolled only in two majors, economics and business administration. Later, freshmen students can choose their own focus area in the second semester. In the first semester, students are mainly provided with the core courses of general education, as well as subjects of the public basic courses. After the “distribution”, IBS will provide professional courses related to different focusing area in the next three years. The whole curriculum system reflects the concept of individualization and diversity by giving students more opportunities to learn. At the same time, IBS adheres to the combination of theory and practice, increases the proportion of practical courses, insists on the combination of compulsory and elective courses, and increases the proportion of general election courses. IBS continues paying attention to teaching innovation in teaching methods, highlighting live case studies, practical and computer simulation experimental teaching methods.
Since 2016, the School has begun to recruit and cultivate students by major categories, there are two undergraduate enrollment categories namely economics and business management. Freshmen mainly receive general education core courses and public basic courses of disciplines. In the middle and late period of second semester, students will be guided by specific majors. Students mainly receive related major courses in the late three years. The whole curriculum is designed to reflect the concept of individuality and diversity, and to give students more opportunities to learn courses. At the same time, the school adheres to the combination of theory and practice so it increases the proportion of practical courses; it adheres to the combination of required courses and elective courses, and it increases the proportion of elective courses. In teaching methods, the school focuses on teaching innovation, and it highlights case teaching, practical teaching and computer simulation experimental teaching.
IBS adopts the strategy of strengthening research to achieve excellence. Basing on research centers, the school builds research teams, holds regular academic seminars, and invites well-known domestic and foreign entrepreneurs, scholars and government management personnel to communicate with faculty and students face to face; as a consequence, the overall research ability improves persistently. In recent years, our faculty have undertaken one key task of social science research project of the Ministry of Education, one key project of National Social Science Fund, 31 National Natural Science Funds and National Social Science Funds, 118 provincial and ministerial projects. More than 780 papers were published in the mainstream academic journals. Over 70 monographs and teaching materials were published, 86 provincial and other types of teaching and research achievements were awarded, among which there were one Third Prize of Provincial Micro-Class Competition, four provincial and ministerial Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards, three Second Prizes, one Third Prize and ten honorable mentions of Young Teachers Basic Skills Competition and a number of school level excellent teaching quality awards.
IBS has established MBA and MPAcc education center, which is responsible for the training and management of MBA and MPAcc students. A group of well-known domestic economists and management experts are hired as part-time professors to guide the study and research of students. The MBA education center is equipped with modern teaching and practice spaces to support students' study, which includes special multimedia classrooms, scenario practice rooms, small seminar rooms, book reading rooms, laboratory for behavioral economics and management research, e-commerce laboratory, practice training bases and a number of teaching places.
Since its establishment, we have been on way of internationalization, and it has been associated with the Northridge California University and University of Missouri, University of Idaho, University of North Florida, University of Edith Cowan, University of New England, New Zealand Waikato University, Nagoya University of Japan, Royal University of Canada, University of Cardiff of Britain, University of Greenwich, Nancy Business School in France and other institutions to establish academic exchange systems. A number of foreign faculty members and famous professors are introduced and have launched more than 10 courses for graduates and undergraduates cumulatively. Every year, IBS holds summer schools and invites foreign professors to introduce frontier academic knowledge for students. Faculty and students have participated in international academic conferences more than 20 times and have visited universities abroad more than 30 times. The school has held various international and domestic academic conferences more than 50 times.
